2018 Volunteer Form

Thank you for your interest in volunteering for JHU Commencement. We have filled all of our volunteer roles for 2018. We hope you will consider volunteering next year.

 

Information for 2018 Commencement Volunteers:
On Wednesday, May 23, The Senior Celebration, a day of student organization and academic department events, will take place on Homewood campus. The day concludes with the Senior Toast on Keyser Quad from 8:30 p.m. – 10:30 p.m.
On Thursday, May 24, the universitywide Commencement will take place at Baltimore’s Royal Farms Arena at 1:30 p.m.
In all cases, employees MUST obtain Supervisor approval prior to volunteering.
*Please keep in mind that as some positions require less time than others, you may be placed in more than one to fill the shift.

Wednesday, May 23 - Senior Celebration Positions

Shift times:
11 a.m. – 1 p.m.
1 p.m. – 3 p.m.
3 p.m. – 5 p.m.

San Martin Garage Guides
Assist guests who arrive from the San Martin Garage in finding their way to campus activities.

Decker Quad Guides
Assist guests in finding their way to campus activities.

Note: These are outdoor positions.

Wednesday, May 23 – Senior Toast Positions

Shift time: 7:30 p.m. – 11 p.m.

Parking Greeters 
Greet guests as they arrive at the South garages and direct them to Keyser Quad.

Keyser Quad Greeters 
Welcome guests to the event and assist guests in finding restrooms which will be available in various buildings around the quad.

Wristbanders 
Put drink ticket wristbands on guests whose IDs have been checked by security staff.

Repeat
If you enjoyed your role last year, request to do it again.

Anything
Assigned wherever help is needed.

Note: The Senior Toast is an outdoor event on Keyser Quad. In the event of inclement weather it will be relocated to the Ralph S. O’Connor Recreation Center. Your indoor role may vary slightly from your outdoor role. 

Thursday, May 24 - Commencement Day Positions

Ushers
Shift time: 11 a.m. – 6 p.m.
Welcome guests, assist them in finding seats and answer any questions before and during the ceremony. Assist with guest departure when the ceremony concludes.

Greeters & Program Distributors
Shift time: 11 a.m. – 6:30 p.m.
Greet guests as they enter Royal Farms Arena. Distribute programs to guests. Serve as guides during the ceremony and assist with guest departure when the ceremony concludes.

Disability Seating
Shift time: 11 a.m. – 6 p.m.
Assist guests needing disability seating to find a seat. Also assist as guests exit the ceremony.

Special Reserved Seating
Shift times: 10:30 a.m. – 6 p.m.
Welcome guests, assist them in finding their seats and answer questions before and during the ceremony. Also assist as guests exit the ceremony.

Banner Carriers – STUDENT ONLY
Shift time: 10:30 a.m. – 5:30 p.m.
Carry banners in procession. A few students will also be selected by the volunteer leader to pump hand sanitizer on graduate hands before they cross the stage.

Arena Parking & Shuttle
Shift time: 10 a.m. – 6:30 p.m. 
Assist with parking, shuttle arrival and shuttle departure at the Royal Farms Arena.

Homewood Shuttle Stop
Shift time: 9:30 a.m. – 2 p.m.
Assist guests boarding shuttles from Mason Hall on Homewood campus to Royal Farms Arena.

Repeat
If you enjoyed your role last year, request to do it again.

Anything
Assigned wherever help is needed.
